The Royal Ploughing Ceremony, or Pithi Chrat Preah Neanng Korl, announces the start of the rainy season in Cambodia and the arrival of the rice-planting season. The day is observed with prayers and feasts.
An important ceremony takes place in front of the Cambodian National Museum in Phnom Penh. Monks gather to chant and ask the spirits for permission to plant. Ceremonial furrows are drawn, rice is scattered, and the royal oxen are brought out to make their prediction for the upcoming harvest.
